EPA Places a Section of the Black River on Superfund List

New York, New York - Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) placed a section of the Black River, which runs through the villages of Carthage and West Carthage in Jefferson County, NY, on its Superfund National Priorities List of the country’s most hazardous waste sites. The Black River empties into the eastern end of Lake Ontario.

Yuma, Arizona - Elevated concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus, nutrients that can negatively impact aquatic ecosystems and human health, have remained the same or increased in many streams and aquifers across the Nation since the early 1990’s, according to a new national study by the U.S. Geological Survey.
