Reclamation Awards $2.3 Million to Study Eight Rural Water Supply Projects

Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Michael L. Connor announced the selection of three feasibility studies and five appraisal investigations with the goal of improving water supplies for rural communities in six western states. The eight awards, totaling $2.3 million, will help these towns and Tribal communities explore options to help meet their future water needs.

Municipal Deliveries of Colorado River Basin Water: New Report Examines 100 Cities and Agencies

San Francisco, California - The Pacific Institute’s Municipal Deliveries of Colorado River Basin Water documents population and water delivery information and trends for 100 cities and agencies that deliver water from the Colorado River basin. Since 1990, the number of people in the United States and Mexico who use Colorado River basin water has increased by more than 10 million - but their overall per capita water use declined by an average of at least one percent per year from 1990 to 2008.

Shoreline Campers Visiting Lake Roosevelt Advised of Rising Water Levels

The Bureau of Reclamation is advising visitors planning to camp along the Lake Roosevelt shoreline over the July 4th weekend to be aware of potential dangers from rapidly rising lake levels. Lake Roosevelt is impounded by Grand Coulee Dam located on the Columbia River about 90 miles west of Spokane, Washington.

Waters of the U.S. Draft Guidance

Washington, DC - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have extended the public comment period by 30 days for the draft guidance on Identifying Waters Protected by the Clean Water Act. In response to requests from state and local officials, as well as other stakeholders, EPA and the Corps will take additional comment until July 31, 2011 on this important draft guidance that aims to protect U.S. waters.

I always told my wonderful wife Terania before we leave Arizona you have to experience the Salt River “tubing” trip. Well Terania is not exactly a strong swimmer and I made sure she kept her life-jacket on for most of the 5 hours trip down the river.

Big Bend Campground to Partially Close Due to Bowman Dam Construction

The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that beginning June 21, there will be a partial closure of Big Bend Campground while construction takes place at Arthur R. Bowman Dam about 20 miles southeast of Prineville, Oregon.

Public Open House on Banks Lake Drawdown

The Bureau of Reclamation's Ephrata Field Office will host a public open house on June 16 to explain details of the Banks Lake drawdown set to begin August 1 to perform scheduled maintenance on dams that impound the 27-mile-long reservoir.
